PERSONALITY: Verity by nature is sociable, insightful and witty and while she generally carries on air of maturity and sensibleness (she’ll claim she’s sensible till her throats sore) it’s usually Verity whose helping her friends out of sticky situations or ready with a keen ear to listen to their problems.
Though like most Verity is often guilty of silly reckless decision making especially under the wrong influence. She's sassy, stubborn and quite quick witted. And her general sense of realism carries undertones of cynicism her quick wit leaves for plenty of banter and playful teasing amongst her nearest and dearest.. However she’s a terribly sensitive creature though she tends to bottle her feelings.
A little bit cunning and somewhat ambitious she’s a pragmatic individual, observant of the world - and people - around her she's adaptable and loves winning and succeeding, she’s quite ambitious and with big dreams she’s ready to make them happen. The type of girl who'll take an opportunity when it’s offered always ready to experience something new. She has dreams of becoming an attorney (as mentioned in her blog) once she graduates. This curious nature however has stuck her in a couple of sticky situations in the past (not that she’d admit she was in trouble) – though she’d always argue she can handle it.
Curious by nature she's an inquisitive young woman, always up for an adventure she loves researching the strange - and new cultures have always thrilled her. Quite elegant in her mannerisms she's posed and tends to hold herself back unless she's completely comfortable in the situation though her wariness doesn’t last long; her natural courage tends to shine through quite quickly. However many have mistaken this hesitation for coldness, it’s not. She’s merely awkward. Clumsy and the type to ramble when she’s nervous she’s a complete dork and loves anything nerdy spouting off pop culture references to break awkward silences.
She much prefers to think through a problem with a clear sense of logic before coming to the correct conclusion. If you cross her enough she'll cut you out of her life. After all why keep people around if they're only going to make you miserable. With that in mind she’s not one who’s quick to anger. She can be the Queen of passive aggression and surliness but it takes a lot to truly enrage her as Verity tends to bottle up her feelings and her frustrations. She can hold a grudge for a very long time, and if you truly upset her you’ll find that her rage is not to be trifled with.
Although she is somewhat private about her feelings and introspective Verity is mostly sociable and is characterised by her desire to support others. Though with this in mind she has a terrible tendency of putting her own needs on hold especially when she goes into full ‘mom’ mode (as her friends have nicknamed it). Naturally she’s typically protective of those she cares about so woe betide those her earn her wrath.
She’s picky and enjoys being in charge of projects, although she prefers to work independently Verity is very guilty of becoming overly assertive and bossy when she works alongside others, her stubborn nature makes it harder for Verity to share burdens and workloads with especially after she perceives a concept as the perfect way to proceed. She is trying to be more lenient however, though she needs to learn that it’s okay to take a step back and let others have a turn. she dislikes slackers and those that don’t contribute when its necessary
HISTORY: Verity is the third child of Jayne and Dylan Colt. Historically the family were connected to a line of witches from Louisiana. Though Verity remains completely unaware of her magical history due to a conflict within the witch community one which directly involved Jayne. Verity grew up in a close and happy home, her childhood was spent playing with her siblings or with her nose stuck in a book, a habit which only began Verity’s lust for knowledge. Driven and ambitious Verity worked hard to maintain perfect grades, always pushing herself to excel and do more. Regardless of how exhausted or overwhelmed it made her – academically she truly thrived under pressure.
Her overachieving continued throughout her teenage years. Choosing late night library sessions over parties Verity was never seen without her trusty schedule or a text book much to her siblings amusement. When Verity was fourteen her parents separated, she remembers hating him for a very long time after all how could he leave them, didn’t he love them? To this day she finds it hard to speak to him. Nevertheless life moved on, and Verity continued to thrive. When she graduated she had her pick of Colleges and spent four years at an Ivy league school on a scholarship.
College was truly her mecca. Everyone was wonderful, though there was one terrible incident. During her first year. She’d attended a frat party with her roommate – her drink had been spiked and if it wasn’t for the intervention of an old friend Verity would have been sexually assaulted. It was this incident that spurred Verity onto her chosen career path. She wanted to help those in need, and what better way to do it than becoming a lawyer?
It was the summer after graduating college that tragedy struck. Verity’s mother had been diagnosed with Cancer. It was an awful year filled with hope and heartbreak but in the end the treatment failed and Jayne passed away. She’s still unable to process the event, repressing all her sadness in an effort to help her siblings Verity has become cold and stoic almost. Completely throwing herself into her law school (she chose a school she could specifically commute to on a daily basis) Verity has become a shadow of the girl she once was, all in an effort to keep everybody together.
