THE PLOT
WELCOME TO CLOISTERE
For almost three hundred years the town of Cloistere, Louisiana, has lived in peace. The presence of both wolves and witches should have ensured the town’s failure before the first marriage union was blessed with the first of Cloistere’s new generation but the Duprés and the Frasers made the community work. As news of the success spread more families arrived, some who would run the woods on a full moon, some whose spells and magic helped the fields around the town grow lush with crops. Not all who arrived were aware of what lurked beneath the seemingly human surface but even the naïve were happy there, unknowingly protected with the power that was held by the town’s founding families. Generations of children were born and raised in town, some then moving onto to new pastures, some returning with husbands and children in tow years later, ensuring fresh arrivals to the gene pool. As the years passed the Frasers, with their ever growing pack of wolves and the Duprés, with their line of witches and hunters, continued to act as the town’s backbone.
Nothing happened in Cloistere without their knowledge, or their guidance. While some outsiders might have seen that level of control as nothing more than the sort of rule that kept people cowed, the towns folk didn’t see it that way. Under the founding families they were safe and happy, the supernatural power plays that had ruined other towns absent here. That was until the January of 2019. Winter rarely came hard to the bayous of Louisiana but this year the ice had grown thick on the slow moving waters around the old ferry landing that adjoined the Frasers’ land. It was on that ice that the body of Leila Beaumont was found on the morning following the full moon. The wolves had run those woods, hadn’t scented a thing at the time but now a witch lay dead with claw marks scoring her abdomen and the eyes of the police are firmly on those who would seem to be the strongest suspects for the murder. Was it one of the Frasers or one of the other wolf families who had found a haven in the area or had another evil finally found Cloistere after its seemingly never ending period of peace?
