Effie hadn't planned to, or wanted to work that long. Another one of her co-workers had called off sick that day, and she was the one who had to cover their shift, which meant work all day. Now, she was walking home in the cold that was biting at her skin the longer she was out there. All she could think about was getting home, but then came the pain that was her mother. The house smelled of her perfume wherever she went, but she couldn't leave her siblings. More so now that she had nothing to go back to after she dropped out of college. With neither of her parents around, what else was she meant to do with her life except try and make the most out of what she had.
Her hands pulled her jacket tighter around her body as she continued to walk through the icy air, watching the go cloudy as she breathed. It wasn't long until she would be home, but she really did hate the cold. As she eventually came to the door of her house, she pulled her key out from her bag and unlocked the door. The moment the warm air hit her, she smiled and sighing in relief from the cold. It didn't look as though anyone was in, as she stepped in and threw her bag to the floor. Although, the sound of footsteps from upstairs let her know that at least one of her siblings was home. Kicking her boots off, she then began making her way upstairs.
"Anyone home?" Effie called out, reaching the top of the stairs and pushing Lexi's door open. She knew Gabe would be at work, and Verity was rarely ever around. She seemed to be the one who most affected by their mother's death. "Lex?" Once she saw her sister in her room, Effie walked over to sit down on her sister's bed. "That was the longest ahift of my life! I swear people just call in sick to piss me off! I don't even think I am getting paid extra for this!"
